Kerala Vasthuvidya Gurukulam at Aranmula is an Institution intended to promote and preserve the Kerala Traditional Architecture and other related subjects. This institution directly comes under Kerala State Cultural Development. This is an autonomous institution registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Act 1955.

This is the only institution in India to promote and preserve Traditional Architecture and other related subjects under Govt. sector. Vasthuvidya Gurukulam is conducting four Academic Courses in Vasthuvidya and Mural Painting based on the basis texts of Vasthuvidya, Mayamatham, Manasaram, Thanthrasamuchayam, Silpiratnam and Manushyalyachandrika.

The first University - recognized Vasthuvidya course is being conducted by Vasthuvidya Gurukulam. The total student strength Vasthuvidya Gurukulam is 300 nos, among them more than 50% are engineers and other technically qualified persons. Vasthuvidya Gurukulam has a very efficient Consultancy Wing which prepare sketches, plans & designs for those who are interested in building their houses and other structures in the traditional architectural patterns.

The Gurukulam has become self sufficient as a result of the academic courses and consultancy service. Nearly 1200 Houses, 80 Temples and 7 Churches have been built in the state utilizing the service of the Vasthuvidya Gurukulam Consultancy Wing.

Gurukulam has documented all the important architecture buildings in Kerala. This is done without any financial commitment on the institution as it is done as part of the academic study. Mural Painting drawn without natural colors and where complex techniques are used, are exhibited here. Mural Art Gallery is designed in such a way as to impart information about these complex forms to the people.
