Kaliyattam of Vaniyillam Someshwari

Vaniyillam Someshwari Temple is located on Theru-Vaniyillam road, close to Karivellur in Kannur District. The temple is famous for Kaliyatta Mahotsavam which happens once in three years on 21st of the Malayalam month of Medam (May). The various types of Theyyams performing here are Theru Devatha, Raktha Chamundi, Angakkulangara Bhagavathy, Padaveeran, Kannikkorumakan, Vettakkorumakan, Karimchamundi, Kattumoorthy, Mudathamma and Veeran. The next festival will be in 2019.
The temple festivals of rural Kerala are marked by many interesting and colourful rituals. These rituals are often inseparable from the culture and life of the native folk.
The temple is managed by the Thiyya community and is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy. Vettakkorumakan is also worshipped here.
