Mahasivarathri of Velam Temple

An ancient temple located on the Kannur –Mayyil route at Velam in Kannur, the temple is one of its kinds as it has two sanctum sanctorums dedicated to Lord Shiva inside a single inner wall. One is worshipped as Rajarajeswara and the other as Vaidyanatha. The major festival celebrated here is the two- days Sivaratri festival.  Though the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is famous for the sub-deity Lord Ganesha

The festival is celebrated with various rituals and the major attraction is the ‘Thidambu Nritham’, performing by three priests.
