Meda Thiruvathira Arattu at Kottarakkara

Sree Maha Ganapathy Temple at Kottarakkara is one of the most famous and most important ancient Lord Ganesha temples in Kerala which have the full family of Lord Shiva as its deities. Even though the presiding deity is Lord Shiva, primary importance is given to Lord Ganesha.  The temple is famous for its Unniyappam offering. 

Meda Thiruvathira is the annual festival celebrated here. This eleven-day festival starts with Kodiyettam (ceremonial flag hoisting) and ends with Arattu on Thirivathira asterism in the Malayalam month of Medam (April- May). 

The temple also celebrates Vinayaka Chathurthi, Sivarathri, Thaipooyam and Navarathri

The temple serves as a resting place for the Sabarimala pilgrims during their pilgrimage.
