Madiyan Koolom Pattu Utsavam

Madiyan Koolom Temple, located near Hosdurg in Kasaragod, is a famous temple dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali.  The temple is famous for the annual Pattu Utsavam which falls in the Malayalam months of Dhanu (January), mostly starts from 26th of Dhanu

During Pattu Utsavam, a special ritual called Kalam Pattu will be held. The drawing of Kalam varies each day and the first day the Kalam is for Kalarathri Amma (main deity) with Pacha Varnam (Green powder), the second day the Kalam is for Kshetrapalan (sub-deity) with Manja Varnam (Yellow Powder). And on the final day, the Kalam picturises Darika Vadham (Killing of the demon Darika) in Manja Varnam (yellow powder) and is for Kalarathri Amma.  

Another festival held at Madiyan Koolom temple is the annual Kalasham festival which falls in the Malayalam month of Edavam (May-June). The major highlight of this festival is the Theyyam. Manjali Amma, Manjalan, Manavatti, Kshetrapalan, Kalarathri Amma and Nadayil Bhagavathy are the major Theyyams performing at Madiyan Koolom Temple.
