Trikkanad Arattu Mahotsavam

On the shores of Arabian Sea and about a kilometre from Bekal, situates the Trikkanad Sree Thrayambakeshwara Temple. Devoted to Lord Shiva, this west facing temple is famous the annual Arattu festival. The festival falls on the Malayalam month of Kumbham (February -March) begins with the Kodiyettam (ceremonial flag hoisting). This seven-day festival ends on arattu  (holy bath) are noted for the rituals of Ashtami Vilakku (held on the third day) and the Pallivetta (royal hunt).  

The festival celebrations include performances of Thidambu Nritham, a ritual art form of North Kerala.

On the new moon days, thousands of devotees flock to Trikkanad Shiva temple for pithrutharppanam (homage to the forefathers). Legend says that the idol of the temple was consecrated by the great sage Kanva.
