Uthrada Mahotsavam at Thumpamon

Date:30-03-2019 to 30-03-2019

Thumpamon Sree Vadakkumnathan Temple is an ancient temple with Lord Shiva as its presiding deity. It is one of the temples in Kerala constructed in Pancha-Prakara layout, an architectural style mentioned in the treatise on temple architecture, Tantra Samucchaya. One of the noted features of the five Pancha (means enclosures) Prakaras (means around) is the two Sreekovil or Sanctum Sanctorum.   It is believed that the deity in the second sanctum sanctorum is Balamuruga (Lord Subramanya).

The annual Uthrada Mahotsavam of this temple is celebrated on the Uthradam asterism in the Malayalam month of Meenam (March-April). Kalakettu Kettukazhcha is the major highlight this festival.
