Valiya Vilakku Vela

Valiya Vilakku Vela, popularly known as Vadakkanthara Vela, is a festival celebrated once in three years at Sree Kachanam Kulam Thirupuraikkal Bhagavathy Temple at Vadakkanthara, Palakkad. Last festival was held on March 2018 and the next will be on February - March 2021.
During Vela festival ‘Kariveshams' (people painted themselves in greasy black) will be visiting the houses in the region for making the ritualistic announcement of the arrival of the ‘Vela'. Traditional ritualistic festivals like Kathirvela, Variezuthu, Paalamaram Murikkal, Kummati, and Kanniyar will be performed in the temple.
On the final day of the festival is the Kazchashiveli or the procession. For this as many as 15 caparisoned elephants will be there.
