Vazha Koombu Thoran


Chopped banana flower sautéed in coconut oil – 2 cups
Grated coconut – 1 cup
Chopped onion – ½ cup
Chopped green chilies – 2 nos
Garlic – 4 pods
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Chili powder – ½ tsp
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Dried red chilies – 2 nos
Curry leaves – as required
Oil – as required
Salt – as required

Method of Preparation:

In a hot pan, add oil and splutter mustard seeds and urad dal. Add dried red chilies and curry leaves. To this add onions and green chilies. Sauté well. To this mixture add banana flower, salt, turmeric powder, chili powder and required amount of water. Let it cook well. When the water reduces, add coarsely ground mix of coconut, garlic and cumin seeds. Mix it well.
