Yam Stem & Green gram Thoran

Green gram (soaked overnight) – 1 ½ cup
Chopped elephant yam stem – 1 cup
Chopped shallots – ½ cup
Chopped garlic – 4 pods
Grated coconut – 1 cup
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Oil – as required
Salt – as required
Curry leaves – as required
Method of Preparation:
In a hot pan, add oil and splutter mustard seeds. Add dried red chilies and curry leaves. Now add green gram dal, elephant yam stem and shallots with salt and required amount of water. Close the lid of the pan and let it cook well. Cook until the water reduces completely. To this add the ground mix of coconut, chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds and garlic. Cook with closed lid for another 3 minutes. Sauté well and serve.
