Fried Coconut Yam Thoran


Chopped elephant yam – 2 cups
Chopped onions – ½ cup
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Chili powder – 1 tsp
Garlic – 4 pods
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Grated coconut – 1 ½ cup
Curry leaves – as required
Urad dal – 2 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Dried red chilies – 3 nos
Salt – as required
Oil – as required

Method of Preparation:

Cook elephant yam along with water, salt, chili powder and turmeric powder. Let the water reduce completely. In a pan add oil, to this add coconut, crushed cumin seeds, garlic and sauté well. In another pan add oil and splutter mustard seeds. Now add dried red chilies, urad dal and curry leaves. Add this to the above coconut mixture. Add cooked elephant yam and mix well.
