Kachil Puzhukku


Diced and cleaned greater yam – ½ Kg
Grated coconut – 1 ½ cup
Chili powder – ½ tsp
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Green chilies – 4 nos
Pepper corns – 10 nos
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Garlic – 6 pods
Coconut oil – as required
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – as required
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Dried red chilies – 4 nos
Salt – as required

Method of Preparation:

In a pressure cooker, cook greater yam with required amount of water. To this add all the dry powders (chili, turmeric) and salt. Mix it well. To this add ground mix of coconut, pepper corns, green chilies, cumin seeds, garlic and curry leaves. Mash and add water, make it into thin consistency. In another pan add oil and splutter mustard seeds and urad dal. Add dried red chilies and curry leaves. Add this to the puzhukku.
