Chemba rice Kozhukatta


Powdered matta rice (soaked in water for 2 hours and strained) – 2 cups
Grated coconut – 1 cup
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Chopped green chilies – 4 nos
Chopped shallots – 6 nos
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Chopped curry leaves – as required
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Oil – as required
Salt – as required

Method of Preparation:

In a thick bottomed pan, add 3 tsp of oil. Splutter mustard seeds and urad dal. Add curry leaves, shallots, green chilies and turmeric powder. Sauté well. To this add 4 glasses of water and salt. Let it boil. To this add the powdered rice and mix well (like upma).  Add coconut and mix well. Roll it into small balls and steam it.
