Squid Nirachathu


Small squids (skin and intestine removed and cleaned) – 10 nos
Opened only on one side like a pipe


Chopped onion – 2 cups
Chopped green chilies – ¼ cup
Chopped ginger-garlic – 1 tsp each
Chopped tomato – ½ cup
Chili powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Garam masala powder – ½ tsp
Coriander leaves – ¼ cup
Salt - as required
Oil - as required
Curry leaves - as required

Method of Preparation:

Keep cleaned and strained squid aside. In a pan, add oil. Add onion, green chilies, ginger, garlic and tomato. Sauté well. To this add dry powder (chili, turmeric, garam masala), salt and mix well. Open the squid and fill it with this mixture. Now close the opened part with a tooth pick. Steam and cook it in a cooker upside down in standing position. This is a tasty Malabar dish with very less oil.
