Therali Appam/ Kumbilappam


Roasted rice powder – 2 cups
Grated coconut – ¾ cup
Small banana – 4 nos
Grated jaggery – 1 ½ cup
Cardamom powder – 2 tsp
Vayana leaf/ Malabatharum leaf – as required
Midrib of coconut leaf

Method of Preparation:

Pin the vayana leaf in the shape of a “kumbil” with the help of a coconut leaf midrib. Mix rice powder, banana, coconut, jaggery and cardamom powder to make smooth dough. You can add water as per need. Now fill the mixture in the kumbil shaped leaf and steam it in an appam steamer/ idli steamer. Let it cook then cool it. Now remove theraliappam from the kumbil.
