Gothambu/ Wheat Payasam


Broken wheat – 2 cups
Coconut – 3 nos
Cardamom powder – 1 tsp
Cumin powdered by heating it – ½ tsp
Dry ginger powder – ¼ tsp
Ghee – 5 tsp
Cashew nuts – 500 gm
Raisins – 50 gm
Jaggery syrup – 2 cups
Dry coconut bits chopped – ¼ cup

Method of Preparation:

Strain jaggery syrup. From grated coconut extract 1 ½ cups of thick coconut milk, 3 cups of medium thick coconut milk and 2 cups of thin coconut milk. Cook cleaned broken wheat. Keep a pan (uruli) on flame. Add ghee to it. Add jaggery syrup and cooked wheat. Let it thicken. Add thin coconut milk and boil it, followed by adding medium thick coconut milk. Sauté it continuously. Add thick coconut milk. Lower the flame. Do not let it boil. Add cashew nuts, raisins and coconut bits roasted in ghee. Add cumin powder, dry ginger powder and cardamom powder. Mix well and serve.
